SEATTLE – Reports out of Seattle suggest the worldwide movement to reopen the 1994 Kurt Cobain death investigation is finally paying off. Either new evidence has come to light, or the Seattle Police Department wants to quell all rumors and conspiracy theories surrounding Cobain’s death and put a lid on the 21-year-old case for good.

Anonymous sources within the department are saying an announcement on the case is forthcoming and likely to include new details recently discovered that warrant a re-examination of the evidence file. This will mark the first significant move on behalf of the SPD to take investigatory action into a case riddled with what some say lazy police work, a total lack of follow up on possible motives/leads, and a rush to judgement in concluding Cobain’s death was an open and shut case of suicide.

Interest in the case has swelled over the past year due to several new documentaries on Cobain, including Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck and the docudrama Soaked in Bleach, the latter seen through the perspective of Tom Grant, the private detective hired by Courtney Love, Cobain’s wife, to find him shortly before he was found dead by an electrician of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the couple’s Seattle home.

The film provides a look at inconsistencies in the official record and interviews many people involved with the original investigation, including former Seattle Police Chief Norm Stamper and former president of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, Cyril Wecht. Soaked in Bleach revives the highly controversial claim that Cobain’s death may have in fact been a homicide and covers similar ground to filmmaker Nick Broomfield’s 1999 documentary Kurt & Courtney.

The legal team representing Courtney Love issued a cease-and-desist order against theaters showing Soaked in Bleach, but the film has found an audience of mostly mixed reviews by way of Netflix and Hulu, among others.

  1. We are an international group of people who come together because of disagreement with the investigation of the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994. We have created a petition for reopening the case. To date, we have more than 12,900 signatures of people from all over the world. Please support our activity. Sign the petition and share it. We believe that the public can ensure the opening of the case. JUSTICE FOR KURT!

    • I didn’t think there was ever an investigation into Kurt Cobain’s death. That makes me question your first sentence, “the investigation of the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994.” Correct me if I am wrong.
It was ruled a suicide and never investigation.
But so much for splitting hairs. Kurt’s murderers must face justice!!

  2. It looked like a cover up.

  3. I’m really not that interested in buying a Russian woman.

  4. I saw Hole perform shortly after Cobains death. some of the things Courtney said on stage were ridiculous. before one song i remember her picking on a kid in the front row wearing a nirvana t shirt, she singled the kid out and told him to burn that tshirt among other things and said nirvana is dead! She then screamed out as the intro to her next song “if i cought anyone cheating on me i would blow their fucking head off!”

  5. Burn the witch the witch is dead! I never thought Kurt killed himself it was just to simple of an end to it all! he was married to a very spiteful psychopathic women! a total wack job!

  6. God I hope that bitch rots in prison

  7. My name is Keli and I am part of this group, Dana has done an outstanding job! Kurt deserves to have his case reopened and taken seriously, Courtney needs to be looked at with a fine tooth comb, everything I have researched shows she has taken place in his murder, and it wasn’t the first time she tried. She tried in Rome and failed. He woke up and wanted out, he told her he wanted a divorce he wanted to take his daughter and be done with her. She couldn’t have that. He was going to change his will and remove her she couldn’t have that. She “didn’t know where he was,” but called to have some work done on the home he was found in, we’ll isn’t that convenient. Please reopen Kurt’s case, let him finally get the peace he deserves, since he can’t be here when he should be, it’s not fair to handle his case the way it has been handled. Taking the word of a junkie who cheated on him, and eventually was his end.

  8. We (those of us from Seattle)have heard this before. Many, many times. There was an off- the – record- investigation at a well known medical laboratory in Seattle in 1997. We’ve always known Kurt was murdered by Calli DeWitt (the “nanny” Courtney hired to kill Kurt), who just sold Kurt’s SeaFirst card – stolen by the killer and used to buy $63 worth of flowers that were sent to Kurt’s mother the day before his body was found – at auction last year.
There is an FBI file on this case, has been since 1994. the Stupid Police Department (SPD) has always known this was a murder, people, they(The SPD)just DON’T CARE!!!! By law Frances is the ONLY one that can have the case reopened. BTW, the autopsy report has been missing from KCME since June 1994.

  9. Everyone already knows Kurt Cobain did not kill himself. Putting all the “conspiracies” aside, his toxicology report showed that he was on so much Heroin at the time of his death, that it could have killed a small horse… Now, 20 years later, authorities are trying to convince the public that THIS was the shotgun he used 20 years ago… I shouldn’t have to spell it out, but it doesn’t take an idiot to know that there’s no way he could have held that long ass shotgun to his head while still being able to pulling the trigger. . .

    • I think they(police) also need to calculate where the shotgun shell was and where the body was. I think that would be a key to finding out if he did shoot himself. and today, we have the forensic science and evidence to find this out. but that’s just my thinking.

Sloppy police work who fumbled the investigation. I hope and pray this case is reopened and Love and her cohorts are finally brought to justice.

  11. Justice to Kurt! Hopefully Courtney finally gets what she deserves!

This is great news for those of us who knew Love was involved in Kurt’s murder. It will be justice for Kurt and a great relief to his fans when Love is finally convicted.

  13. Soaked In Bleach never explained who hired the electrician, when they hired him, and what he was hired to fix. Seems very suspicious that he shows up to fix something in the greenhouse when everyone else seemed to be failing to look there. I can imagine Love slapping her forehead everytime they didn’t find the body and then finally calling that poor electrician to make the discovery.

  14. Courtney called the electrician the day before his body was discovered. Your husband is missing, presumably suicidal and you find the time to call an electrician to install security lights on the unused greenhouse above your garage while you’re in a different part of the country? Sounds legit.

  15. My intuition, and logic, couldn’t agree more. Too bad pride and fear won’t let the powers that be see things like that. Scratch Seattle off my list…..

  16. Yup, you’re full of shit.

Ever heard of an individual’s right to privacy?

People already know what happened, we knew it in 1994.

You’ll never prove murder because that’s not what happened.

Too many red flags with this one. Not usually into conspiracy theories, but having read texts on the “murder theory” and viewed “Kurt &Courtney” and “Bleach”
, together with interviews from musicians in Seattle at the time of the death, I don’t buy the verdict of “suicide”.

  22. If you google this case on interviews with Tom Grant and Benjamin Statler talking about how the movie Soaked in Bleach really opened up people’s me it really did! How can anyone after watching the docudrama say they still believe he committed suicide? Tom and Ben in interviews say since the release of the movie some new evidence has come up. I’m really curious is to what kind of evidence they mean. I’m guessing Someone has come forward with real information that was around in the last days of Kurts life. Waiting anticipating whats next. Courtney is so guilty. Cali Dewit is the guy that killed Kurt.

I saw the documentary ‘Kurt and Courtney’ a few years ago. I was startled at the number of first-hand accounts of those who had been approached by Love to get rid of Kurt and the greater number, including her own father, who believed Love was capable of murder. I then read a few books on the murder theory, the best being, “Love & Death: The Murder of Kurt Cobain” by Ian Halperin and Max Wallace. Now, after watching “Soaked in Bleach”, I have no doubts at all that Cobain was murdered. The case must be re-opened-there are simply too many red flags to let this case rest.

I’ve watched the documentaries and read books on the murder theory, and also biographies on Courtney Love. No doubt that the death of Kurt Cobain was murder not suicide. With all the available evidence, a decision not to re-open the case by authorities is tantamount to condoning murder.

  25. Couldnt agree more with every single word in Juliette Cattelles Comment. The movie “Soaked in Bleach” is just the last coffin nail on the case finally gets reopened.
